It is time once again for our annual spring flower basket fundraiser, which raises money to support scholarships and programs for area students. We are working again this year with Kamis Nursery, located at 7978 Portland Rd. NE. The nursery offers a wide variety of beautiful flower baskets to choose from, and we will be selling the 12-inch hanging baskets for $29.50. Customers will purchase tickets from East Salem Rotary Club members, and use those tickets to select hanging baskets at the nursery. The nursery is closed on Sundays (this information is printed on the tickets). The sale will end on June 12th, and all baskets must be picked up by June 16th. Contact any East Salem Rotarian to purchase tickets for flower baskets.
The Rotary Club of East Salem is happy to announce the addition of new club members from the Mannix Law Firm and from Blanchet Catholic School. We extend a warm East Salem Rotary welcome to these new club members on Zoom, and we look forward to getting to know all seven of them as we eventually get to move back to meeting in person!
Our annual East Salem Rotary flower basket fundraiser was a great success! We partnered once again with Kamis Nursery, and the money we raised will help us provide college scholarships for local seniors in the upcoming school year. Many thanks to all the club members who helped to make this fundraiser such a success!
Rotary Club presidents Terry Riley of East Salem Rotary and Jeremy Mackay of West Salem Rotary jointly hosted a community event for Rotarians and the Salem community on Thursday, July 25th.
This event was intended to further Rotary’s motto of “Service above Self,” and to share Rotary’s message of service, strong personal connections and making a positive difference. Members from both clubs learned about the ACE Hardware business in West Salem, and their commitment to supporting fundraising for the Children’s Miracle Network and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.
Our annual Palm Sunday Brunch fundraiser and service project took place on Sunday, April 14th. This event allows us to collaborate with the Willamette Lutheran Retirement Community to serve a great brunch and visit with residents and guests, and it also serves as a fundraiser for our club.
We had a great turnout, and good food was enjoyed by all. Thank you to all who helped with this fun event, including spouses and other family members who helped us prepare, serve and clean.
Rotary District 5100 District Governor Larry Hatch was the guest speaker at last week’s club meeting. He talked about the district’s initiatives and goals for the 2018-19 Rotary year. He also presented a Rotary Club Champion award to Phil Sperl, in recognition of his tireless efforts in seeking out international projects for the club to support. Recent projects include collecting and donating much-needed medical supplies, as well as ambulance and fire equipment, to fire departments in Mexico. These projects were accomplished with support from several other Rotary clubs in Oregon. Congratulations Phil!
