Numerous East Salem Rotary Club members and friends showed up on Saturday, October 16th to celebrate and send off the fully loaded fire truck that is now headed to Guaymas, Mexico. The participants, including East Salem Rotary club members and the president of the Salem Creekside Rotary Club, all signed a helmet to be included with the supplies.
The heavy rescue truck, full of medical and firefighting supplies, which included a Jaws of Life tool for the first time, will provide much-needed equipment for the firefighters and paramedics in Guaymas. Raul Garza of the Woodburn Fire Department, and Juan Armenta of the Hubbard Fire Department help identify fire departments in Mexico that are in need of equipment, and they collect outdated equipment from fire departments all around the U.S. northwest, a process that can take about two years. Thanks go to the work of our club members who helped load the truck, and also to the Creekside Club for providing funds as well as help with loading, and to the Keizer Rotary Club, which also provided some funds for the project. East Salem Rotary is proud of our legacy of supporting firefighters and paramedics in Mexico and Guatemala.
